Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairings: 9th Doctor/Rose
Length: 425 words

Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who, I'm just a fan. As in fanatic, not something that moves air.
Author's Notes: The basic idea for this (namely the first few lines) just came randomly to me early in the morning and after running with it, I came up with this. I wrote this for [info]laura_isaac.

"Why do you keep on insisting that I should have a name?" the Doctor demanded as he started to walk around the TARDIS while he ranted. "Would I be more real or less of an alien if my name was Frank or Doctor Frank or Sir Doctor or something like that?"

Rose shook her head as she stood next to where he was for the moment. "No, but it would make things less confusing if we meet up with a doctor or even just anyone who knows a doctor which is everyone if they could call you something else."

"But I am a doctor! I'm the Doctor!" he shouted as he turned to look at her.

"Well you don't have to shout about it," she muttered. "I was just making a suggestion."

The Doctor rolled his eyes, "That's just fantastic, Rose, but there isn't time for suggestions like that."

"You're a Time Lord," Rose pointed out. "You live in a time machine. You can make up for the two minutes it will take you to come up with a name."

The Doctor started pressing some buttons as he said, "But you can't."

Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as a stray strand of blonde hair fell in front of her brown eyes. "What are you talking about? Of course I can, I'm traveling with you in a time machine, I can go backwards and forwards in time just like you."

He sighed and looked back up at her. "But you're not going to live forever. I'm over 900 years old I can live for hundreds more whereas you... you might not even live to be a hundred."

"Well now you're just being depressing," Rose told him after a moment. "Scoot, will you? Let me tell the TARDIS where to go next." The Doctor moved out of the way and Rose took his place at the controls as she started thinking of where, and when, they should travel to next.

The Doctor watched her as she thought about it and finally made her decision. "I'm not being depressing, I'm being honest. It hurts to see people grow old while you continue living, hurts even more to see them die before their time," he said quietly so she wouldn't overhear.

She smiled up at him. "All set. Want to know where we're going, Doctor Frank?" she asked, her eyes twinkling.

"No, let it be a surprise. And don't ever call me that again."

"Fine, I won't," she told him. "Doesn't suit you anyway," she added with a shrug.
